Claros Diagnostics announced today that it has received CE Mark approval for its rapid quantitative diagnostic analyzer and disposable. Eclipse Product Development served as Claros' partner to help commercialize their microfluidic immunoassay tech
The point-of-care system for the urology market analyzes whole blood obtained from a fingerstick using a software-driven optical and pneumatic system to process a sample applied to a disposable "lab-on-a-chip" cassette. Aside from the point-of-care benefits, the system features an easy-to-use software user interface and a low cost to both own and use compared to a clinical laboratory analyzer.
Eclipse provided Claros with comprehensive product development services that included industrial design, user interface design, user and design research, and engineering design for assembly and manufacturing. "We were exceptionally pleased with Eclipse's "one-stop shop" for streamlining our product development on time and within budget," said Michael Magliochetti, President and CEO of Claros. "Effective management by Eclipse allowed us to meet our goals during these economic times."
Applying a proven phase/gate development approach, the Eclipse team helped Claros move swiftly from conceptualization, engineering design, to prototype fabrication with a strong focus on BOM costs. Accordingly to Jason Taylor, Project Manager for Claros, "For example, we initially considered a motorized tray to handle the disposable cassette but Eclipse's engineers guided us toward a mechanical solution that was more reliable and less costly.
