Osram Sylvania announced that it has introduced the Ecolight® Shower Light for illuminating bathtubs and shower stalls. Eclipse Product Development served as Osram's development partner to design and engineer the novel water-power LED.
“We realized that many indoor and outdoor shower areas are lighted poorly as the available light is often obscured by a shower curtain or door,” recalled Laura Peach, Marketing Manager for Osram Sylvania’s New Ventures Group. “Utilizing the shower’s water pressure to energize an LED was a practical and environmentally-friendly solution to providing task lighting without batteries or additional wiring. As an added feature, the design allowed us to include red and blue LEDs that indicate when the water is at a comfortable temperature.”
Working with Osram, Eclipse’s engineering staff designed a compact turbine-driven generator with matching power supply electronics and then housed the electro-mechanical assembly in an elegant and easy-to-install injection molded waterproof enclosure. “We found it easy to establish a collaborative relationship with the Eclipse team and communicate our needs. Going forward, we intend to draw on Eclipse’s strong creative talents and design expertise to support future product development initiatives,” said Charlie Coushaine, Product Design Engineering Manager for Osram’s New Ventures Group.
